We are kaleidoscope colours and promises made in the splint second after blinking. We are broken records playing the most beautiful, darkened tracks you’ve ever heard. We are doodles in the margins of journal covers and spiral notebooks, the camera flashes in the mirror and the sounds that whistle between the gap in your front teeth, accidentally on purpose. We are postcards from Europe, little stamps to mark destinations we flew over once and looked down upon from our window-seats in economic class, dreaming- I’ll come here someday- and spend all our times putting pennies in jars for that someday we’ve pinned our hopes on with thumbtacks and staples. We are the mugs of tea left half-full (or half-empty, depending on perspective preference) and the stack of rumpled change next to it and an empty chair with a coat thrown over the arm looking as if it were waiting for somebody to return from the washroom but nobody will, for one second we had stuck our noses to smell those paperback books and the next second we were gone, like smoke, to those alternate universes inside our heads, and be careful not to succumb to temptation and follow us or chances are you will spend all (or a major portion of) your life wandering urban mazes in search for release. Some of us are born prisoners and others are made prisoners but in the end we’re all prisoners, chained to our strange habits and ways of loving, so while you still can, run- run, before we get the chance to capture you in the cage of our palms.

Intentionally or not, we will crush you.
